Lord God,
In these weeks leading up to Christmas we long to know the meaning, the power, and the mystery of that great mission whereby you came to save us from our sins.
Help us focus on the good news that has caused great joy for people around the world and across the ages.
We are in awe that the coming of the Lord Jesus has shaped the history of the world and has changed untold millions of lives. We need this gospel in troubled times lest we become cynical, doubtful, fearful, or vengeful. Strengthen our faith during challenging times.
We rejoice in the proclamation of Immanuel, God with us. As Isaiah said, “to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”*
We need the governing of the Lord Christ because humanity is so out of control.
We need the “Wonderful Counselor” because we wander in ignorance and foolishness so much of the time.
We need the savior who is “Mighty God,” able to save and preserve.
We need an “Everlasting Father” who protects us and provides not what we think we need but what we truly need.
We need the “Prince of Peace” because of the tensions between the nations of the world, because there are thousands of people whose hearts are dark with thoughts of murder and terrorism, and because even friends and family members so often battle with each other.
We have always needed a savior. Now more than ever.
In the name of Jesus the Christ, Son of God, Savior. Amen.

Por Adviento y la temporada de Navidad
Señor Dios :
En estas semanas previas a la Navidad anhelamos conocer el sentido, el poder y el misterio de aquella gran misión por la cual viniste a salvarnos de nuestros pecados.
Ayúdanos a enfocarnos en la buena noticia que ha causado gran gozo en la gente alrededor del mundo y a través de los siglos.
Nos admiramos ante la venida del Señor Jesús, que ha modelado la historia del mundo y ha cambiado incontables millones de personas. Necesitamos este evangelio en épocas de tribulación para no volvernos cínicos, dubitativos, temerosos ni vengativos. Fortalece nuestra fe durante épocas desafiantes.
Nos regocijamos en la proclamación de Emanuel, Dios con nosotros. Isaías dijo: «Porque nos ha nacido un niño, se nos ha concedido un hijo; la soberanía reposará sobre sus hombros, y se le darán estos nombres: Consejero admirable, Dios fuerte, Padre eterno, Príncipe de paz».*
Necesitamos el gobierno de Cristo, el Señor, porque la humanidad está fuera de control.
Necesitamos al «Consejero admirable» porque deambulamos en ignorancia y necedad la mayor parte del tiempo.
Necesitamos al Salvador que es «Dios fuerte», capaz de salvar y preservar.
Necesitamos al «Padre eterno» que nos protege y provee no solo lo que pensamos que necesitamos sino lo que realmente precisamos.
Necesitamos al «Príncipe de paz» debido a las tensiones entre las naciones del mundo, porque hay miles de personas cuyo corazón está entenebrecido con pensamientos de homicidio y terrorismo, y porque incluso amigos y parientes pelean tan a menudo entre sí.
Siempre hemos necesitado un Salvador. Pero ahora más que nunca.
En el nombre de Jesús el Cristo, Hijo de Dios, Salvador. Amén.
